IN A PERFECT WORLD...

wHAT'S NEXT?

In the interest of the Academic and Serious nature of this project, I would like to advance my thoughts on where I might take this blog. If I had all the time in the world to do nothing but watch RuPaul’s Drag Race and write about it online (what a lovely world) what more would I like to cover?

  • RuPaul’s Twitter
I don't know if there's something to RuPaul's Twitter or if I'm just fascinated. However I think                there's something very intentional about what he says and how he says it. I'd love to dig into              how he uses the social media platform to reach his fans.
  • The music of RuPaul
RuPaul's music is interesting to me because of the rate that he produces new albums, and the          seemingly meaningless pop/fluff nature of the lyrics. RuPaul talks a lot about his love of music            and I would like to look further into what's behind his own music.
  • RuPaul fan art
This might be a fun look into the many fans who are so inspired by RuPaul's Drag Race and its          contestants that they create art of their own to pay tribute. I would look into certain Instagram              accounts that regularly do this in a consistent fashion like Drag Mice or RuPaw's Drag Race.
  • Challenges on Drag Race
This would be a look into the deeper meaning behind the challenges on Drag Race. While they         might seem like frivolous challenges to make the show entertaining, I suspect that there is a lot of       thought that goes into choosing and constructing the challenges. I'd like to think as well about           the messages that the challenges convey.
  • Looking at more individual contestants and how they fit in
I could imagine doing a series of posts like I did with Adore Delano to talk about some queens           whose style doesn't seem to fit on the show. I would want to look at other contestants like Max           and Milk and talk about their journey on the show.
  • The changing tone of the show
While I begin to address this in the piece on Untucked, I want to talk about the change in tone of       RPDR. The show seems to be moving further and further away from catty competitiveness to the       queens sharing a sisterhood and being supportive of one another.
  • Language
The direction I started with when I began this project was intended to deal with langauge. I                 ultimately decided to keep the focus more braod, but I would still like to get into this topic. When       it comes to language we see typical of drag queens being used by those outside of the drag             community, there's a lot to consider. Issues of ownership, context, misappropriation abound.
Hopefully I'll find time to get to all these topics. Maybe not or maybe not soon but I hope at some point I'll be able to continue writing and addressing some of these questions and ideas about Drag Race and RuPaul that fascinate me.
